A Word from the Musical Director
Dear music lovers,
I am sure that I am allowed to say “Dear friends” since it will now be the third season in which I have the good fortune to be the Musical Director of this wonderful Sinfonietta orchestra.
During this period it has become clear that there is tremendous artistic potential in the orchestra that has been somewhat concealed. In various ways we can develop it more and more. I am continuing to try (as long as the budget allows us) to bring excellent and well-known soloists to appear with us in Beer Sheva such as Valery Gergiev and Christoph Eschenbach. I am currently busy negotiating with them about the possibility of appearing with the Sinfonietta in a subsequent season.
In 2015-16 we expect a diverse and beautiful season. It starts with one of the major programs of the German-Israeli Festival and continues with a Piano Festival in which we will perform with a prize winner from the Rubinstein International Piano Competition of Tel Aviv and a prize winner from the Enescu International Piano Competition of Bucharest. The reason we have chosen to donate one concert is part of a direction I wish to pursue. I am negotiating with three international competitions about inviting one prizewinner to perform with us per year. We hope to be able to provide these prize winners with debut performances in Israel.
Dear music lovers, I thank the Sinfonietta for its pursuit of musical and technical excellence. Together we look forward to a wonderful season.
With best wishes,
