|Concerto No. 4 in the “Around the World” series|
Yuval Zorn, Conductor
Roy Amotz, Flute
Yossi Shiffman, Moderator
“Do you know the land where the lemons bloom?” - Italy! It has been the heart’s desire for generations of musicians: they listened, dreamed and made Italy the subject of their works. This concert will have
fascinating commentary by music critic, scholar and journalist Yossi Shiffman who brings three composers to the public who were “gripped with longing” for that boot-shaped country. All this will be
under the baton of conductor Yuval Zorn, who joined the program for young artists at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2002 where he conducted several
premieres of new works and worked as an assistant conductor, rehearsing and coaching singers under the musical director Antonio Pappano. Since then he has
worked at some of the leading opera houses and festivals in Europe, including the festivals in Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence and the opera houses of
Barcelona, Copenhagen and the Israel Opera.
In addition, we will host the flutist Roy Amotz, who won first prizes in the International Flute Competition in Volos, Greece (2007) and in the prestigious
Pergamenschikow International Chamber Music Competition in Berlin with his ensemble, the "Vis Trio". Also, he regularly appears as a member of the Tel Aviv
Woodwind Quintet in the best concert halls around the country. The quintet recorded its debut album in December 2016 and plans to start its first concert
tour of Europe in June 2017. Since September 2013 he has been principal flutist of the Geneva Camerata Orchestra, an ensemble that performs early music on
authentic instruments, new music and everything in between.
He has performed solo with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Geneva Camerata Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble, the International
Orchestra of the Mediterranean, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
